This costs fewer spins if you’re further along in the build, but it depends on how you find the machine. Below is Guardians of the Aztec:

All you’re looking at are the blue coins directly above the reels. In this example, we have two out of 10 filled, which is nowhere close to a profitable play. But once you fill seven spots, it’s worth playing. Some grinders take it at six, but I’ve been going with seven.

Guardians of Giza plays the same and it has a sphinx instead of a pyramid and red coins instead of blue.

As you spin, you pick up those colored tokens on random spins. You’ll sometimes get more than one on a spin as well. Here’s where it gets interesting: Once you get to seven or more tokens, the game gives you the option of buying the remaining tokens you need to reach the bonus.

From what I understand, buying the bonus early or spinning for it yourself yields the same number over a large sample. If there’s somehow an advantage one way or another, it’s slight. I usually just spin myself, but that’s my personal preference. As you get eight and eventually nine coins, the price to buy the bonus becomes cheaper. I still usually just spin it out rather than buy it.

The line hits pay poorly in this game, so you’re just trying to hit that bonus and ideally get lucky and back into a different bonus along the way.

Once you get the 10th token, you’re taken to a new screen where you pick one of those 10 tokens. It’s predetermined, so it doesn’t matter which one you select. You either get five free games, 10 free games, 15 free games, or 20 free games, a set number of credits, or wilds with multipliers for a spin.

If you get enough free games, you can trigger different features while you’re in the free games bonus, including more free games. I don’t have a video of Guardians of Giza or Guardians of the Aztec yet, so here’s some footage courtesy of Beth Loves Vegas:
